Facts
—
Until Lake Shore Drive's
S-curve was smoothed out in the early
1980's the building was, true to its name,
located east of the Outer Drive.
—
A large glass dome on the northwest
corner of the lot covers the swimming
pool. This used to be a landmark for motorists
on the Drive, who would pass right by
it.
—
Two metal sculptures by Abbott Pattison
are on the building grounds, including
the 18-foot tall Chicago Totem outside
and Pavane to Chicago in the lobby.
—
This was the world's largest apartment
building when it was built.
—
Each tier of balconies on the front
is bracketed by concrete panels with an
abstract sculptural pattern.
—
For almost ten years this was the only
highrise in the Loop east of One Prudential
Plaza.
